Light the lamp of knowledge, there is so much darkness

Alfalah Welfare Organization was founded on the 27th night of the holy month of Ramadan, 2000. The name of this organization, Alfalah Welfare Organization, is derived from the call to prayer verses “Haiya al Alfalah,” meaning “come towards welfare.” So, the word “Alfalah,” which is an Arabic word, means welfare. During the meeting of the founding members (held at Global Computer College), almost everyone gave their suggestions about the name of the organization. Adnan Sarfraz Bhatti suggested the name of this organization as “ALFALAH.” The name was unanimously and pleasantly accepted by all the members. Another decision made during this meeting was to rent an office.

The basic idea of the organization was to uplift communities through dedicated social work. The main slogan of the organization is “To serve humanity,” rooted in the principle of service and solidarity.

Alfalah Welfare Organization started with a vision of giving a bright future to individuals by spreading knowledge and educating people. During the first meeting of the elected body, the chosen goals.

We are to serve humanity.

Formation of the Organization

Election and Goal setting

After the formation of the organization, an election was held, and all members of the organization voted for the Executive body and General Body. The purpose of this election was to choose the following executives:
– President
– Senior Vice President
– Vice President
– General Secretary
– Finance Secretary
– Press Secretary
– Joint Secretary

Additionally, members of the General Body were selected.

Following this election, the first official meeting was held to shape the goals of the organization. The following goals were set:

Education

We set the goal to provide free education to needy students. For this goal, a committee was set up. The main scope of this committee was to visit private schools to convince them to accommodate a few poor students for free education.

Another agenda was the formation of an academy in Alfalah Welfare Organization’s office to provide free education to deserving individuals and also establish an adult education academy in the same office. They worked very well, and all their goals were achieved within 3 months.

Health

We set the goal to provide awareness of health and hygiene. The health committee was formed, and goals were set for it. The three major goals were to run a campaign of blood group testing and convince people to register themselves as blood donors, to arrange seminars and workshops with the help of doctors to educate people on how they can protect their health through a healthy lifestyle, and to motivate youth to participate in sports activities.

This committee also worked tremendously well, and in the next couple of months, they arranged a seminar in the municipal community hall on the topic of prevention from Hepatitis C. They also arranged a Cricket tournament and ran a large-scale campaign in blood group testing and started the registration of blood donors.

Environment

We set up a goal to run regular tree plantation campaigns under the umbrella of Green and Clean. The committee was responsible for marking the areas where we could plantation of trees. The other goal was to set a mechanism to collect the holy papers of the Quranic ayat and process them accordingly. They worked very well and were successful in engaging government officials to join this campaign. For the collection of holy papers, they placed boxes all over the city.

Social Work

For our social work initiative, we set a goal to provide as many food bags as possible. We distributed several hundred bags discreetly, without disclosing the recipients. We implemented a system to procure and assemble the food bags, identifying deserving individuals with the assistance of mohalla committees, and provided them with vouchers. This allowed them to visit designated shops at their convenience without compromising their self-respect.

The second, and perhaps most challenging, goal was to offer interest-free loans to help start small businesses. However, this campaign did not succeed as planned due to a shortage of funds.
